The original interface is over 20 years old now and when OS X was released, M-Audio only provided drivers for the MIDI interfacing and ditched the control panel for the timecode synchroniser and patchbay which was included in the OS 9 software bundle.

Since you mention it, I believe the proper name for this device, whether branded by MIDIMan or M-Audio is the MIDISport 8x8/s – the /s no doubt refers to the SMPTE/EBU synchroniser or, less likely, the fact that it has serial interfacing on the back too, so it would work with pre-USB Macs and PCs. Incidentally, I think that I managed to mislead myself into thinking the firmware had loaded, as it seems that the pulsating light on the front panel really only indicates a USB connection, not necessarily a successful firmware negotiation. Still, initial tests by starting Qjackctl without the script and then running Qtractor and patching from within Qtractor work with both the MIDIMan MIDISport 8x8/s and the M-Audio Keystudio. I tried the script you suggested but it seems like I have to do some patching perhaps within Qjackctl or Catia – but I’ve not got my head around that just yet – more research to do now it’s working. etc/udev/rules.d/ contains the file les and they look like what I should expect to find.Īnd running lsusb -l reveals its presence along with my M-Audio Keystudio controller keyboard, which is USB class compliant.Ĭlient 16: 'MidiSport 8x8' Ĭlient 20: 'KeyStudio' I’ve read a lot of postings where people are having trouble with the firmware, but this doesn’t seem to be the problem or it doesn't look that way. I did a Make of m-audio-usb-midi-fw as instructed by the readme file and the firmware appears to load, as the MIDISport 8x8/s USB connection light pulsates slowly. Luckily, the audio in my setup works and MIDI from a USB controller keyboard does too, so it’s not all broken, I just can’t get the MIDIMan MIDISport 8x8/s USB MIDI interface ports to show up. This could be easily be an error in configuring Qjackctl or Cadence or something else entirely. I am having problems seeing the physical ports on this device in Linux Mint 20 Ulyanna.
Still, it works fine on my Mac and Windows PCs, but not on Linux.
I have a MIDIMan MIDISport 8x8/s, yes, it’s the original blue, green and white MIDISport 8x8/s not the later M-Audio model.
